The Glorious Bronze Child
A visitor to my studio during the recent Spike Island Open was enthralled by the image of the girl in “After the Dance Practise”. He described it as “Glorious”. This reminded me of something that I had read when I was a child. I have no memory of the name or the subject of the work nor the name of the author, however, I considered him male and I imagined him white. All that I remember of the piece is the phrase “…the glorious blonde child…” and I understood immediately all of what those words speak...
